TRUTH. CONTROL. DIVINITY. If I were to pose these questions before you, would you be able to give me answers? The liberal would say, there is nothing absolute, only relative, and hence, such questions are pointless. The religious would say, there is a fixed path to all of these. The magnitude of their devotion would decide their acceptance of the number of paths. The empiricist would ask me to create objective yardstick for each of these to enable an accurate prediction of their frequency, or other related processes. Does that mean we must give up on the quest of truth? Or give up on self control on the pretext of well being? Or they don't even complement each other? And will any means lead to the end that is divinity? Is there divinity? Some people, like you and me, simply tried looking for these answers. And they go somewhere. Ps- the usage of liberals, religious etc. is only symbolic to represent certain ways of thinking, and not absolute in any way. GREATNESS. Amidst all the intolerance across the world on the basis of religion and caste and class and ethnicity...I can go on and on with the list, but instead I'd like to remind everybody, how unnecessary this all is. I'm not a Buddhist, I simply like their philosophy. But the primary reason why I'm posting this is because, Buddha is a metaphor. After the Kalinga wars, King Ashok was so moved by the bloodshed and death, he swore to never engage in warfare again and adopted Buddhism. Not only that, he also propagated the philosophy far and wide with the help of his children. Be it your Buddha or mine, the point is, a religion came into existence primarily with an intention to spread love, peace, and forgiveness. A religion has always been considered as a means to an end, the end being salvation. I don't know what normed salvation feels like, but to me, one is truly salvaged when one can be at peace.
